Ottoman parade

I need to build an ottoman for my
I don't need anything too large, probably about 30" or so and preferably round

via JVW home

I fell in love with this little ottoman the moment I saw it.
This whole space is so clean and fresh, like a plush
terry spa robe.

this is along the same lines, but rustic and without the ruffle

Oh greek key, I love you!
but the leg is a little too
contemporary for my rustic re-do

Hey, how about some nailheads?  I like the height for a table but
not sure about feet being up so high.
(The draperies are gorgeous - that contrast border!)

via Turquoise, LA

Ooh la la, What's not to love.
The feet, the fur, yum

This could be a great glam addition to my rustic room.
Maybe a little shaped wooden leg would work
 with my chair.

These are very chic with a double row of nailheads.
They would be perfect as is.  Love the cream leather.

With three rows of cord and a ruffle
this one is very sweet looking.

A storage ottoman did cross my mind.  You can never have enough storage or secret hiding places.

How about Morrocan?

Bright, fun, and cheerful...
I'm not sure I'd want to make these.
The concave design and pieced sections
would require much more energy than I want to spend!

Love the Fabric on this!
Great size too.

Cute, sassy, stripes.

I already have ticking in my room and
don't want to add another stripe, but this is
really very cute.

Very traditional and posh.
Nice details and size.

I'm really torn between a slipcovered ottoman like this.
It seems to go with my chair, and I could switch
out slipcovers as I please!

As I said, I'm torn.  Hmmm,
wonder if I could construct it in basic muslin to be used
with slipcovers.  I could have the best of both worlds and
even have a fur slipcover in the mix!
Watson, I think I've got it!

Tailored and Dependable...The Box Pleat

I know that sounds so utterly boh ring, but I do believe it's true. You just can't go wrong with a box pleated valance.

Pheobe Howard really knows how to use the box pleat in such a sophisticated way

These box pleats are sublime, they are poetry,
 they are soft breezes

They just feel right
They're there and they're not there
the perfect quiet complement

Love the flat tape on these

Ahh solitude

Here's a nice shaped version, so fitted and tailored.
Just love this all in blue

Sheer softness, so clean and fresh

A great classic bed canopy
I am overwhelmed by your taste Ms. Howard

I really like how this very deep box pleat hides the area
 above the doors

just clean white

Hello bow window.  This is Fabulous.

Last but not least my own humble abode
unstyled, rumpled and lived in

I could have made this a little deeper but lol, only had 4 yards to do two windows!

Hope you enjoyed this box pleat round up...

Picasso's blue period and my achilles heel

We all have our blue periods and I'm having mine.  Yesterday, in a fury of paint therapy I twisted my achilles heel yet again by painting my family room.  We all have that room that we can never get right so why not tackle it when your eyes are blurry with tears?  Hey, whatever works.  I do feel a tiny bit better than yesterday though I'm still not sure I want to keep the dark color.

The following pics are scary but sometimes it's better to see things on film when your too immersed in them.

This one I like...

my placeholder art (till I get the real thing) even looks good...

My budget is zero and some things just have to stay.  Case in point - big beige blob sofa, cheap pillows on sale, frames (that mirror needs to move to the right).  First I painted this one wall Sherwin Williams Craft Paper thinking maybe an accent wall might help my long narrow room.

Here you can see the old color which wasn't exactly working with the sofa. Yuk, maybe cream or grey would work better with the brown wall?   Then I slapped up a dropcloth to see if a lighter drapery would help.  It's so clearly greyish in this picture.  I could use a nice cream color fabric like the pillows.....

Like these.....

Would love some really great art but for now just placeholders......

I may just scribble out this ostrich in the large gold frame???

or try to knock off some modern art .....

I can handle all the small details later but here it is %*%&&

I  have despised this fireplace so many ways... oh, and while I'm at it, that giant cow of a chair too.  Trying the dark color yet again to see if this massive pile of builder bricks will fade into the wall.

I've tried to spruce it up over the years.  I yanked the concrete mantle off which improved things, but it still needs some work.  It takes up the whole room.  I've been doing everything to avoid painting it!  Maybe if I add some millwork above it like this...

Homes and Gardens via Plush Palate

with panels above...
problem is there's more brick behind that sheetrock.  I could panel it and wire for sconces which would provide some much needed light (eliminating the need for ugly cans)???

maybe do this to the ceiling and paint it all a creamy off white???

Cote de Texas Tanglewood

I've thought about going all creamy neutral like Joni from Cote de Texas did in her Tanglewood re-do?

Some more big
fireplaces....

Somehow these don't bother me as much...

They don't have much on the mantles...

I'm still playing around and
this stuff is just plopped up there..

Here's the view from the kitchen
Standard center-hall colonial
I've now painted the remaining walls dark brown, hmmm...

Need to recover the ottoman (maybe in an amber velvet like the pic below) and ditch the leopard rug..
hmm whose room can I hide that in???

So, here I am, me and my achilles heel...  I think I'm on the right track but I really need some color and to make a decision on the draperies.  I'd love some silk but it's not in the budget so I'll have to go with either canvas/duck or inexpensive linen from fabric.com and bang it up with some trim....
The good thing about going with a cream or sandy linen is that I can change up the wall color....and maybe paint the big behemoth fireplace afterall.  Oh well, at least I've got one wall right...
